Enrolling in Co-requisite Sections of a Course: Co-requisite course(s) have two or more sections that must be enrolled in simultaneously, such as lecture and discussion; lecture and laboratory; or lecture, discussion, and workshop. Enrollment is permitted only in discussion or laboratory sections specific to each lecture section. For example, to enroll in MATH 009B, lecture section 001, you may be limited to enrollment in discussion sections 002, 003, or 004. You may not enroll in discussion sections linked to other lectures.
Prerequisite: A prerequisite is a required preparatory course(s) or test score. Students who have not completed the prerequisite may be prevented from enrolling in the course. Enforced prerequisites appear in the course listings in this schedule. Students who have course work from another institution that may satisfy the course prerequisite should consult with their academic advisor and the department offering the course.
Restriction: A restriction limits enrollment in a course to students in specific class levels and majors or to those who need approval of the instructor or department.
Waitlist: The class waitlist is an option that may be available for some courses during enrollment periods. If a department offers a waitlist and the course still has space available, you will receive a message when a requested class is full, asking if you want to be added to the waitlist.
You can then choose "waitlist" from the menu selection for that course, and you will be added to the list if you meet the course prerequisites. If you are enrolled in a laboratory or discussion section, you may waitlist for one other section that is full. After you have completed your enrollment in the first section, return to the enrollment menu and enter the call number for the section you want to waitlist, choose "waitlist" from the action menu, and submit your request. Your course confirmation will reflect enrollment in the first section and waitlist status in the second.
If space becomes available, you will automatically be enrolled in the course, and an e-mail notification will be sent to your UCR R'Mail account. If you change your mind about a waitlisted course, you must drop yourself from the list. Otherwise, you will be placed in the waitlisted course or section if space is available.
Being on the waitlist does not guarantee eventual enrollment in the course. When a department ends its waitlist period, students who were not added to the course will be notified via UCR R'Mail that the course is full and the waitlist is no longer available.
Waitlisted units are counted as enrolled units for the purposes of meeting the total number of maximum hours allowed. Once the unit maximum with any combination of enrolled and waitlisted units has been reached, you will not be able to add any additional units until you either drop a class or remove yourself from a waitlist.
When you choose to waitlist, consider how this may affect your financial aid eligibility and number of enrolled units if you are not able to eventually enroll in the course. Waitlisted units are counted as enrolled units for the purposes of meeting the total number of maximum hours allowed. Once a student reaches his maximum with any combination of enrolled and waitlisted units, he will not be able to add any additional units until he either drops a class or removes himself from a wait list.
Cross-listed Course: A cross-listed course is one with the same content taught under agreement with two or more departments. Cross-listed courses generally, but not always, share the same course number. The University of California, Riverside General Catalog and this schedule identify cross-listed courses. |
